About Us

Vetstoria is a secure platfom designed to enable online communication between the pet owners and their real-life veterinary practices.

Our Goals

Our ultimate goal is to help pet owners understand and monitor their pets' health through improved communication with their vet.

As practising veterinarians, we greatly value and appreciate our clients' trust and dedication in following our advice; and recognise the importance of avoiding misunderstanding between the pet owner and the veterinarian, because this can result in a pet owner who wasted his money, a vet who wasted his efforts and a pet who remains untreated.

  1. Vetstoria's first objective is to improve communication between the vets and their customers

    • In the evening following a consultation, wouldn't it be great to have the opportunity to speak to somebody at the practice?

On various occasions, pet owners are given choices between several possible diagnostic approaches or treatment options. At a time of great stress, your vet may provide you with a large amount of information to help you make a choice. Most of the time, it is rather complex and technical. The decision, as to whether or not to go for a risky surgical procedure, is difficult to make and potentially bears serious consequences.

By communicating your concerns on Vetstoria, you inform your vet of any possible misunderstanding and give him/her a chance to clarify the situation. Ultimately, this will help you understand clearly all aspects of your pet's healthcare and facilitate the decision making process or even the treatment itself.

Please note that, on Vetstoria, it is also possible to engage into conversation with other pet owners who have faced similar issues.

    • Do you want to get the best available treatment options at all times?

Veterinary medicine constantly evolves so that a new treatment option for your pet may suddenly become available. This can come in the form of a more effective, safer or convenient kind of treatment. Unfortunately, you may not know about it until your next visit and that may be 6 months away.

Vetstoria gives your veterinary practice the tools to communicate with you easily and on a regular basis. Being part of that community means you get to know immediately of any news relevant to your pet's health.

    • Do you believe that continuity of care is important?

One of our objectives is to allow continuity of care between different practitioners who are not working for the same clinic. Nowadays, many veterinary practices subscribe to dedicated services which assume their night and week end emergencies. Those services have many advantages such as 24h on-site veterinary staffing, state- of-the-art emergency equipment, specialist training for their vets and nurses etc. Unfortunately, there are some disadvantages, including the fact that you will not see your regular vet and the latter will not have access to your pet's clinical record, therefore not knowing a thing about your pet's history. Having it available right here might prove useful.

  2. Vetstoria's second objective is to provide the tools to help pet owners monitor their pet health as efficiently as possible

Even if your pet is healthy, there are a number of issues that need careful monitoring. Those include giving vaccinations, flea treatment and wormers on time. Also, in a country where 40% of our pets are overweight, keeping a close eye on our pet's body condition is extremely important.

By registering on Vetstoria, you can schedule your own vaccination, flea treatment and worming reminders. It is also easy and simple to monitor your pet's weight.

Despite adequate care, our pets do get sick. Occasionally, they may be affected with life-long illnesses requiring life-long treatments. Such diseases are common and the list includes the likes of heart diseases, skin irritations, arthritis, diabetes ... Should your pet be affected, your veterinarian will need ongoing and precise feed back to address any necessary medication or dose adjustment. It might not be easy to remember exactly everything that happened over the previous 3 to 4 months.

On Vetstoria, you will find all the tools necessary to keep track of your pet's health and precisely monitor his symptoms and treatment.

The result appears in carefully designed graphs which can be shown to your vet at each check up; therefore helping her/him get a clear picture of the situation.

What do We do?

Vetstoria is an interactive community for the pet owners and their vets.

  1. We offer the pet owners 3 services

    • We allow a direct interaction between the pet owner and their veterinary practice.
    • They can be in contact with like-minded people for example dealing with a similar pet condition or using a similar treatment.
    • We help them manage their pet health by providing disease monitoring tools directly on their profiles. Those include vaccination, worming and flea treatment email reminders as well as easily up-datable charts designed to keep a detailed record of their pet's weight, illnesses, symptoms or treatment
  2. We allow the vets to bring interactivity to their on-line presence

In a few simple steps, vets can create their own profile page on Vetstoria. A practice profile will include all the information present on a classic veterinary practice website: location, opening hours, picture gallery, team presentation ... The difference is that we allow the creation of a customer-based community.

As a result, vets may then communicate interesting news to their clients easily and cheaply (actually for free!). The vet's messaging system is designed to target the recipient very specifically.

    For example, they can:

    • Inform pet owners of relevant new treatments.
    • Check one of their patient's progress after an operation and leave a piece of advice on their client's profile.
    • Offer their non-vaccinated patients a discount to start a vaccination program.
    • Keep their clients up-to-date with staff changes ...

How do we make money?

You might wonder how we cover our costs and provide all our services absolutely free of charge.

Well, we identified three revenue sources that should allow our team to keep bringing our users innovative and useful FREE services:

  1. Banner advertising

Such advertising will be selected so as to not spoil the user experience but rather display relevant special offers of interest to any pet owner or veterinarian.

  2. Data aggregation from the community

We take the information pet owners share about their experience with their pet's diseases, remove any personal data (pet owner name, username, telephone number, email) and sell it to our partners. Our partners are the pharmaceutical and specialist pet food companies. They are developing and manufacturing products that are used daily to treat our pets.

By selling this data and engaging our partners in conversations about pet owner's needs, we are helping them understand the real-world medical value of their products so they can improve them. We are also helping companies accelerate the development of new solutions for patients, therefore improving animal health and welfare.

  3. Performing quick surveys

We do not rent, sell or share personally identifiable information for marketing purposes or without explicit consent. However, Vetstoria will, on behalf of its partners, send short questionnaires on specific topics.

    For example, questions regarding:

    • The use of flea preventative addressed to the pet owners
    • The prescription of flea preventative addressed to the veterinarians
    • It is obviously easy to opt out of those occasional surveys.

Founders

Vetstoria was founded by 2 practising small animal veterinarians. Both qualified from the university of Liege, Belgium in 2001. Their shared passion for customer care led them to create Vetstoria.

Julien Renard DVM MRCVS

"After practising both small animal and equine medicine in France and Belgium, I have now settled in the UK. I strongly believe my patients get optimal treatment when the pet owner completely understands and adheres to the therapeutic plan.

I am in charge of all technical aspects of the website. Should you encounter any malfunction within Vetstoria, please let me know and send me an email at julien.renard@vetstoria.com"

Julien Poublon DVM MRCVS

"I have been working as a small animal vet in the UK from the moment I qualified in 2001. Over the past few years, I have read recurrent bad press about the veterinary profession in our newspapers. To me, this illustrates the communication gap that has been growing between the vets and their customers.

I will be helping the veterinarians to understand how to use Vetstoria as an effective customer relation management tool. Should you wish to discuss this or any other issue regarding our community, please let me know at julien.poublon@vetstoria.com"
